so first and foremost let's talk about our first two points so we have the solar plexus which is where we're going to start which is that bundle of nerves just in and around the diaphragm so we're gonna hold that point for 30 seconds and that's going to be the first spot that we kind of hold when we're assessing diaphragm it often tells us about the state of somebody's nervous system so when we hold this point we'll often find that people who have reading issues physically but then also chronic anxiety this point will be very lit up slightly spasmodic you may even fall into the point if somebody lacks died from a tone no exercise and then we move into the adrenal reflex which is going to be halfway between the waistline and diaphragm guideline in between the plantar fascia and the big toe flexor tendon which we'll all palpate together we're basically just just distal to the proximal heads of the first and second metatarsal this nice little groove and whereas the solar plexus talks to us about nerve stuff the adrenal talks to us about hormone stuff so nerves can be nerves can be fun because they are short term versus adrenals and hormones are more long-term there are the cycles and the drips of chemical balance throughout the body so those are two very different ways that we start to feel and palpate our section but they're also two points that we just they feel very good to just start on and stop with [Music] I'm at twitching in general is what I find as a release so where the twitching is is very significant because that indicates the body system or the area that the body is starting to release from but then also from a from just a general perspective if we finds the client twitching in multiple places throughout the body in muscularly that tells us that you know there's a lot of muscular tension that's being held in the body all over the place so yeah and for those of you who want a little bit of assessment from from the reflexes we can see already in the digestive reflexes there is that nice discoloration nice discoloration very very present and then we can also see it going into the spinal reflexes so we know that the digestive issues aren't just digestive but the lines are actually going into the spine so there's a little bit of nerve impingement that's also creating the digestive stress but it looks like it's largely upper not necessarily lower so we would and post section consult the client on less less digestive health overall and more food choices as well as on the eating habits like time mental emotional state when eating that kind of stuff I have plans ooh yeah eating fast they're also eating literally on the office floor or you know even for my massage people my massage therapists who eat in their treatment room like you know from from a mental emotional well it's it's not everybody you know not everybody has a problem with it but if somebody is already experiencing a large amount of stress if they have some boundary issues if they're experiencing digestive kind of upset then it could be what they're eating but it also could be the context in which they're eating so as work as I'm doing some of the warm-up techniques set for third fourth or fifth its forth so the fourth toe is popping the proximal head of the the fourth metatarsal is clicking which tells us a lot about the hips as well as the low back going into the shoulders the the relaxation techniques aren't just fancy moves to impress your client they're also assessment based so we start with our six relaxation techniques which we'll go over for our newbies after lunch and then we start to walk this thing walking this might it helps it helps to sing out loud it does it does it's clinically proven right that would be sad okay that we would need to refer to a specialist who were feeling for areas of heat coldness facial itch she actually she exhaled [Music] actually the flexor tendon for the fifth toe is is gripped tight tendinous so we're just going to hold that for two seconds another sign of neck issues then those tendons get really tight especially on the right side yeah lateral neck issues specifically because of radar that shoulder reflex like right as that that's them you might even because it's so because it's so tissue related we might then get in there like plenty smooth just so just open up all that soft tissue superficial self from a vertical zone three so freckles and and birthmarks on the reflexes indicate where a body system has been burnt out and because she hopped on the table because she and and the toes slightly disjointed as well because she hopped on the table with the digestive issues were seeing in the core of the digestive issues and spinal issues with that but then also vertical zone 3 is very active so we have horizontal zone three vertical zone three multiple multiple hits to the digestive influence that's so that's a it's a misnomer it's a bad word I should really change that word but when we look at a freckle or a brown spot yeah sometimes when you're born but not always most has anybody developed a spot just like randomly brother like yeah so that's the kind of stuff that we look at it's not necessarily from when you were born but when the spot happened is when the body was starting to get cranky in that space okay so we've got a little bit of thyroid stuff too just holding that thyroid reflux let me go surface at the proximal phalanx so just going back to the birthmark let's say somebody is actually born with a more is that potentially a marker or something that people already indicating that there's something going on yes very much pituitary pineal was just way too congested as well which thyroid would be in that category so another hint of hormones readjusted then we're on the dorsal surface walking down that lateral surface of the proximal phalanx and there's a nice little spot right in there so we're gonna we're gonna hold that so this would be about at level of c7 on the lateral side so very much scalenes this is the boring part this is where I just hold the point and we wait what's not boring it's just a but when you're sitting there it's not boring maybe put the other watching no just kind of held it right and that's that's the misnomer with with reflexology is we don't need to work deep in order to be effective the body is receiving the impulses through the size of the nerves not the strength of the impulse so as we work on the the actual nerve endings also we don't know what the clients level of sensitivity will be in that spot I'll have clients will say you know what you could you can really go deeper like if you if you want you can don't go deeper and I say sure why not and so I'll go deeper but then we'll trip over a reflex and send them off the table like sorry which is why I tend to err on the lighter side manually especially with new clients because we never know what's underneath it yeah in fact the opposite can be true well when we say level of pressure you were inferring about like deeper pressure so the answer to that would be no what were what we're looking for at least in in the style of reflexology that I'm teaching you there are other styles where they say you know the deeper you go the better it is period I disagree with that I have lost clients because of that I've hurt people because of that and I teach the opposite so when when I'm walking through the reflexes and when I teach you how to do this routine basically we're feeling four points that are that are different from the rest texturally they're they feel out of place but in terms of how we address those points sometimes lighter pressure is what the body needs so I'll even back off - like superficial like just resting on the skin like barely activating any deep sensation whatsoever but that that's what's needed and the point releases and the body shifts other times I'm going through the foot and that can be really I can be a really fun session but at the same time it can be very very difficult for a client to experience that just always keeps my keys just not that this is the first manual reflexology session not for manual well I did I did for the fourth a UK conference in England but that wasn't like that was barely anything that wasn't a full session yeah and that's that's exactly like the thought cropped up into my head I'm like oh crap I haven't done this in a really long time do you say that - excellent and but at that but you know my hands are just doing it because they they remember you know I don't need to question yeah exactly and that's only because I've done it for such a long period yeah so we're clearing that with all the foots no gets that shoulder that messy messy shoulder to do a dual dual point hold to just take away some of that take away some of that attention this isn't something I'm prepared to talk about our teacher oh I think I know what that is it's a technique that I'm we're finding at the moment but you didn't we don't know anything about no I'm sure I'm sure because Cindy would never reveal my secrets yeah all the time exactly nine times out of ten you know every every once a while you just get a bad read and the point just you thought it was a point it's not a point you know whatever you move on but when when I find a spot that that's concerning and I hold and nothing's happening I'll keep going and then I'll find another spot and that other point well we'll respond yeah so millijoules or nodules so physically they indicate congestion of the tissue that could be as you know malignant as an extra cellular growth that could be as benign as just like from a hormonal perspective that reflux overstimulating overworking trying to catch up I find those nodules over pituitary pineal and people who have a long history of using sleeping pills so the the tissue needs to be pumped here so I'm pressing and then I'm rolling the foot on to my pressure how do you know because the body asked and unfortunately yeah that's not something I can teach but yeah it's when when when you get a feel for the reflexes and you you're walking through an area and the thought pops into your head like that that feels weird and I don't think the thumb walking is going to cut it switch it up you know you're still you're still palpating you're still stimulating the reflexes you're still doing the the technique but at the same time we need to we need to respect that oh this area feels different and so maybe it needs to be treated differently so now we're into lower digestive just all that all that congestion so what I'm actually there isn't as I'm walking but then I'm rotating the heel at the same time to get a little bit more pump to it but that's advanced stuff like you don't need to there will not be a test there will not be a quiz like that's just exactly yeah you don't need to do it every single time and in fact I would encourage you not to because most clients won't need it but one a point when a point is really speaking to you where you feel like a zone needs some extra work like you know do the routine but add on to it yeah and so we need to sit right here in the belly of the small intestine and we're just gonna hold that physically the area is getting very hot yeah like very very warm which it which is brilliant like it's it's a good heat but at the same time just noticing little things like that oh no don't don't try to push this on gender because I have I have men that do the exact same thing it's temperature is a very big thing in reflexology and a lot of books don't talk about that when when a client comes in when you're palpating the reflexes you're gonna notice temperature differences but then also when a client's facial itch when a client's on the table you'll you'll have those sensations I can't tell you how many times that I personally been on the table and I've exploded like a volcano just in this just wave of heat but then the next minute I'll crash and I'll go like super ice-cold like deep bone cold it's ridiculous the the body with temperature change specifically I think is a really big reflexology indicator that we're moving stuff around so your one thing dangerous what um yes a release of a certain kind of rebalancing okay yeah you look like you were walking digestive reflexes on the medium so one two three four five you going all the way I thought you weren't supposed to go back past the third toe oh yes when we when we look at when we look at horizontally we don't want to pass that third toe because that's plantar tendon territory but then vertically we're walking in line with that tissue so we don't need to yeah program when when other teachers and students asked me to describe the program here I'm like well it's basically just a bunch of crazy people getting together to learn reflexology then then I talk about the the actual stuff that we do and I say well first we teach you the routine and then your job is to go out mess up come back and then we reteach you the routine and and it's basically like that every single time and I wish that that's how I would have been taught because they basically just said here's here's what you do goodbye yeah and that's like that serves nobody [Music] I have the short ones yeah use the demo don't we we got some more for all sensations going down the arm huh we have the like cheat don't think you need to do it like right out the gate full section no peeking like we're sure clients don't know I that's perfect so now we're into the sacral spinal hc1 vz4 are these all the glute reflexes and then we go into our ankle rotation which was no reflection on the client and I would never never ever verbally verbally say that whose when we when we look at bird not look at what we feel when we feel the reflexes you palpating you're just like you like what what is that it's like that just feels so not okay and you think of it and you're like wow there's there's so much happening here that needs to be unwound no because it's right around the joint reflex oh yeah up up and run through here yeah medial aspect totally but the lateral malleolus is just hip joint I'm more lateral lateral and down cuboid notch yeah cube right now we're gonna do something in the calves quads so the a sending is quad descending his hamstrings it yeah such a small surface its fingers in the way yeah the foot the foot is intense like don't like be intimidated but don't let that stop you continue breathing through the session right reflexology wisdom okay in our last area we're gonna walk the plantar surface of the calcaneus and then finish with relaxation techniques do the whole thing over on the other side see what we find there funny bring us oh no sorry great pumpkin that's where we're at and in the year and then one of the other things to just look at and recognize throughout the session is if a reflex area like visually looking at all the digestive stuff in the in the foot for this client in particular the tissue didn't really respond to the session as much as I would have liked I would like I would have liked the the the reflex to plump up a little bit I would have liked the lines to dissipate a little bit and they did but not not as dramatic as I personally would have liked that indicates some lifestyle issues that frankly the body's not ready to tackle without the right resources so we would need to have a little bit more kind of coaching in consult with with feet like that where we're working the reflexes and we're not noticing the changes instead that means you know the body doesn't body really doesn't have what it needs to make those changes on hand when you say that reflex yeah yeah because that didn't happen here we know that unfortunately it's it's not within the body's control or domain at this moment with where it's at it could it could it's still dark but the clicking isn't as bad and that toe that's good it's still there but it sounds like there are multiple things going on so it's which radio first for sure we could I mean and that's the beauty of reflexology you know we could zoom in or zoom out you know we could talk any language about that marker we could say that it could be peroneal weakness it could be you know so so specific to the foot or we could go digestive we could go mental emotional we could do so many things with that one marker it's just all about you know what we feel comfortable talking about with the clients and did you like the bomb that was hilarious yeah he's like do you have anymore and I used the last use the last bit just before I left so I threw that in a jar and didn't get a chance to test it this site doesn't have a strong of a line profile it's still still very present but it's not as not as bad on the set as the other side so from his own three perspective we know that digestive wise what's on the right side of zone 3 is going to be liver gallbladder yeah versus the actual stomach which is going to be on the left side spontaneous inhale always a good sign that's one of the breathing changes that we look for sometimes I have like a hard time differentiating between right there the spinal reflexes in the bottom of the foot yeah going on hug the bone yeah especially in in Sally case training when she talked about mapping the lymphatic reflexes she talked to very heavily like you want to be on the bone if you're not on the bone you're not on those reflexes which is very very interesting but at the same time just like we talked about tendon in his tendon bonus bone so the actual bone of the medial arch would be spine whereas the soft tissue would be the soft tissue that surrounds the spine facial edge you know that that kind of stuff well it's important and then you know if if a client continues to facial it during the whole session at one point they're gonna kind of get pissed and they're like why is my face itching you know is there some sort of like radioactive material on the on the table but your job can be to educate and say look facial itching is part of the reflexology process it's a good thing it means that your body is receiving the work but also unfortunately we can't control it because it's not coming from the outside in it's coming from the inside out these are neurological impulses that are lighting up the brain to produce excess static which are being perceived as itching so well so okay so we are sending nerve impulses from the feet to the brain those nerve impulses light up the brain yeah creating a neural static yeah an electrical charge in the nervous system that electrical charge literally kind of shocks and radiates throughout the face which produces a facial inch but because it's not like a topical dermatitis type itch yeah it doesn't matter how many times the client scratches their face it doesn't go away because it's electrical it's not integumentary sandy says hi oh soon totally staying in our lane during this training right I heard all about the parties you threw the bills you racked up who had the charge card the demons that were summoned yes they get reliefs from the sheiks I often finds that when they when they get up off the table they're much more steady they're much more calm they're more alert they're more vibrant unfortunately Parkinson's Alzheimer's dementia is a lifestyle issue so these same clients who would come in to see me for Parkinson's you know they come in and they talk about the history of digestive issue stuff some of them would come in with McDonald's bags you know it was very connected to oh we got some foot issues yeah yeah oh that's a good thing don't worry about it right so let's let's talk about numbness for two seconds and then we'll get back to all Parkinson's so Alzheimer are so numbness numbness in the extremities is actually a really good thing when somebody is when somebody's on the table and the only way that I can explain it is when I've had clients come in and their extremity starts to go numb during the session or they wake up from the session and an extremity is known that's actually a very deep healing of the extremity especially because that was the foot that you cut the body is kind of turning off the computer to reboot the computer and that's that's what's what's happening when the body goes numb so looking at what extremities go numb yeah where they go numb along certain guidelines can be very very important Alzheimer's dementia Parkinson's so those clients they they would come in and although the reflexology would help for sure unfortunately you know the longest I've worked with a Parkinson's clients has been about two years before they passed and unfortunately you know l-dopa is the hormone that's associated or the neurotransmitter that's associated with our sense of purpose and satisfaction so when a client comes in it's often they're retired they lost why they're here and so their body starts to degenerate they then compensate through sweet foods which very significant from traditional Chinese medicine perspective but literally trying to regain the sweetness of their life through things that are pleasurable and unfortunately what happens is sweet foods trigger dopamine in the brain which l-dopa the drug you know is also set to stimulate but food you know food is the medicine but food can also not touch so do I belong here and that can be a very difficult conversation exactly yeah standing wants to know what clients have the most tendency towards numbness I really I haven't found a pattern no no pattern yeah it's kind of their defense it's kind of their defense mechanism for they they went too deep too fast they realized they went too deep too fast and then they're like oh crap I have to control yeah and they're right their mechanism to control is like I'm awake I'm like let me tell you about my kids you know that it's it's about trying to reground their experience after experience something that is very ungrounded yeah these the whole the whole process with again we we talked about that this morning about people like realizing that they're very out of their depth when they when they come into a reflexology experience not not intending to have the results or the experiences that they have can be very very startling okay so now we're back to the back to that poor digestive that's what my daughter says her OCD it felt like something all goodness it was a weird weird sensations happen in a reflexology appointment but it's all the body just kind of going through it's going through its process the second zone 3 is much better clients especially with clients because not only do you have your judgment to contend with but you have their judgment to contend with depending on how you yeah client comes in and you know they've already judged you they've judged the experience they've judged themselves they've judged their condition the last thing that they need is somebody else coming in with their own opinions especially the more doctors that they've seen the worse it gets because they are they've been told so many times this is what's happening this is what you need to do and that can be very difficult from a reflexology perspective because our job is not to take that away from them what happens when a client comes in and their entire existence is predicated on the fact that their body says no for them yeah I don't have to go to work because my body says so instead of I hate my job you know I don't have to go to that party because I have a flare-up instead of I don't want to go to the party I can't do that for you because my body says so instead of that compromises my boundaries please ask somebody else we'll see see how I feel just don't want to deal with the danger right now I have a precursor line that I give people before I have to say no to their face I'll say why don't you send me an email about that cuz then they have to really want it and unfortunately it sucks when I'm away in the internet connection I can't answer the emails you know four people actually need need interest of the emails but if it's a if it's a question that's not really productive they just won't even they won't even follow up but there was also power and saying no I'm not prepared to talk about this right now can we reschedule for another time just got the last last section to do in the lower body with the ankles the relaxation techniques hot towels solar plexus adrenal and done this is been quite postural worked out for me yes perfect it's just what I needed everyone's saying it's been relaxing to watch that's your voice yeah unfortunately that's it's a terrible curse well not not being soft-spoken but like um like I can see it and some of some of the students faces when you know I just I talk and I talk and I talk and I explain and I explain it and I explain and then they're like I have no idea what you just said but it was so pretty it's a siren song effect exactly there you go it's in there somewhere just locked away til future notice they're still captivated yeah oh okay I gotta we gotta do some stuff here so we're gonna so we're right at the in the glutes and I better get the glutes on the left side there's a lot of attention and through here so we're just gonna take it super slow super super do do four slow um well so they call it bone spurs it really depends on if it is actually bone or if it's just protective tissue you know if somebody has a diagnosed bone spur yeah and that's the bone overreaching in order to try to ossify and protect the the connecting ligaments and tendons which is either way it's a defense mechanism but the degree to which that defense mechanism takes place is really important like because bone immobilizes wear as soft tissue can be can be yeah so the body starts to grow bone over the connective tissue in order to make sure that it doesn't doesn't rip or or tear further so it stems from an injury yeah it's a hole it always stems from an injury the body the body produces the bone into what an anchor to cast yeah exactly great work to prevent further damage to the space unfortunately when we look at chronic conditions if the body if the body is truly injured and it wraps the area and protective tissue then that that's also really hard to break through the body can do it the body can do anything but the actual problem can can be the body's protection at the end of the day well stern is still going numb or is that yeah sudden see is it increasing no it's not it's just oh it's decreasing okay good okay in the last area center surface of Carolinas so much Steve why did you do this Santee do strictly reflexology or do you ever do it's really it came down to the fact that I was working you know three four times as hard for half the results if that clients would be coming back all the time not even out of I just want to relax and I just want to get rubbed on you know it was literally I'm coming in with pain and I feel good after the session but then the pain comes back I started doing reflexology and they're like the pain is gone and they didn't understand why it's the only modality that's really worked the way that I wanted it to work so you know when I when I made the call back in 2015 to just do reflexology it was it was kind of traumatizing for my client base because I lost clients but I gained more than I lost because I then became a specialist which if Scott were here he would argue tooth and nail with because he's a generalist he loves having all the tools and things he'll do the oils he'll do different types of massage postural assessment orthopedic work relaxation deep tissue reflex not like sometimes all in the same session you know it's it's amazing what he can what he can do and integrate but I personally you know if I'm doing something I want to do the one thing that works consistently every time that's yeah that's why that's what I prefer to work with Carolyn says - Buffalo Oh Carolyn so sweet we need to learn so much from your videos thank you for going on thanks for watching babycakes how's that okay No he had a question I was she left yeah she left huh came and went she's a steam punk I mean my County is very hilly yeah [Music] most northern part of our County there is a spook hill and it has her like please it is just put your car neutral like a rollercoaster buddy how you feeling huh any particular experiences or thoughts or questions that you have and just as an FYI you know with with all the sections I prefer to be completely quiet if a client comes in and they have questions or I feel like something needs to be said I won't I won't hesitate to say something but at this really like my goal is to make sure that they relax and that I'm not interfering with that relaxation process so I keep my mouth completely shut throughout the session unless the client engages in conversation and even then there is an inappropriate level to conversation as well so at some point you know I'll say hey why don't we why don't we try taking the left foot and just absorbing the work that's a good nice way of just the same good quiet please be quiet cool awesome so that was our demo let's go ahead and feel free
