hi welcome to the second part of our series on different parts of the body massage today we're going to be working on the hands and the arms I'm going to be starting with Greg's left hand and we're basically going to work each individual finger and the thumb and then work up through the hand the wrist and then coming up through the forearm around the elbow up into the upper arm and into the shoulder so I'll talk you through each individual technique that I would use and uh we'll take it in there I'm going to start with a little bit of oil so when I'm working the hand and the arm I usually just warm the whole area up with a little bit of oil I don't necessarily want too much oil when I'm working on his fingers but on his arm I'm going to want a bit of oil and because he's got reasonably hairy arms a little bit more oil for people with a lot of hair this is just a warmup move get a bit of blood flow moving and for us to feel where he's tight paying particular attention to this area right across here you can see that joins with his fingers this this finger in particular and it comes up through this is a very important pressure point we're going to use a bit later comes right up through here we can feel also that tension then joining up into a shoulder so this is just warming the area okay so I'm going to start with this thumb I'm doing is just squeezing around the tip of the thumb and then going down the sides then I'm going to start to use my thumb on the edges feeling any fine bits of tension that we can feel so again squeezing and then rubbing so a lot of these moves are repeated several times don't squeeze the nail like that we squeeze to the side of it you can once you're below the nail then do a four fingered squeeze like this like this a lot of the tension from this part of the thumb comes from right in here so we can often start right through here and start to work up right into the muscle of the thumb here so again squeezing squeezing and then working into here this is again particularly good for massage therapists who use their thumbs a lot and for many people who are doing different things hairdressers Etc we can then grab each below this first joint and then move it side to side so stabilizing the joint and moving side to side this will break up some of the congestion in the person's joint then we can get in and do some fine detailed work along the various small bands that we can feel in here so using too much oil sometimes can also be difficult to grab different parts of the fingers so it's nice to have a cloth nearby where you can get a better grip so say for example with this what I'm going to do is I'm going to be pulling the joint this way which is going to open it up so I'm holding like this holding the wrist and then just pulling okay so that that opens up that whole area a little bit more as well so again I'm going to come back squeeze some more open this area up a lot of repetition and then I'm coming in like this with fine detailed work really getting where that thumb joins on the outside as well what I can do is open up this whole area here as well now that I've worked the thumb a little bit and work right into here on people with big tight thumbs like myself people will often work on me by having me my hand on the table like this and use their elbow or their Knuckles through here which is another way to work it once we've worked that a little bit we can open up the thumb and start to work this pressure point in here the best way to come to access this point is to come from this way we can also move the thumb around while we hold the point in a second so that movement would be done like this get the person to breathe [Music] in we can wait for their in breath and as they breathe out we can stimulate in acupressure this area here is a lung Meridian Point and this is a large intestine point it's a It's called The Great Eliminator so it's a powerful point to help people to let go to breathe in and out there's many areas within this although it's considered one point I often find there's points within the point and we have to get right close to where the thumb and the first finger join if we come into here it's not going to do anything at all it's more that's more the webbing of the finger so we're coming right back near the back here and we're holding from here and from here opening it up nice and wide and then we can also hold it and shake this can get energy moving up into the body as well when it's really tight holding a point that's tight and a little bit uncomfortable while shaking it helps to move that feeling that a person has that they want to move their hand away plus it helps to move the actual stagnation that can exist in these points can see there we do another slight pull and that can get both this joint and deeper in and just stretching it out okay so let's work on this first finger now and we're going to get into the point of it squeeze the tip right along the edge here of the finger we can then isolate this joint point and move it side to side doing the same for this joint here then we can start to come in like this and rolling into the fine detail of the tiny little bands that are the start of the bigger bands hands and the arms that are existing here in the fingers again we can do the four fingered one we just don't work on the nail itself working down the edges and we're going to just move the joint side to side same here what we're going to do is start to work from The Edge coming into the finger right through here again squeezing the tips working into the fine details through here
