Hello everybody and welcome to another episode of Wednesday's reflexology wisdom. And today I am really excited to have Charlotte Valor with us. Now Charlotte, I believe this is your first time on Wednesday's Reflexology Wisdom. It is. Thank you very much for having me. >> You're welcome. Um, so for those that don't know you, um, I think best thing is could you just sort of like tell everybody who you are, what you do, so that they've got an idea who you are. >> Okay. Um, so my background actually randomly is in secondary school language teaching. Um but I've always had uh I've always been really keen on complimentary therapies and um during the pandemic in particular um I found it really beneficial to manage my own anxiety. I was diagnosed with premature ovarian insufficiency at this time as well. Um so I just found having reflexology really beneficial for my own well-being. So um bit of a snap decision but I decided to train. found the level five at Jubilee College and um had the lovely Gemma as my tutor um and then was really fortunate enough to have a quick conversation with you and >> Oh yeah, it all went downhill after then, didn't it? >> Absolutely. Um so yeah, we had our quick conversation and um so now I'm combining my love for teaching and for comprehensive therapies by teaching the level five as one of the Jubilee tutors, which is amazing. Um and also >> where do you teach it? Where do you teach it? Let's get a bit of advertising in for you. >> Okay. Um, so I teach in Oxfordshire. So I'm the Jubilee College tutor for Oxfordshire. Um, which I love. I think it's it's fantastic. It's one of the best parts of my month delivering my um a >> weekend course. Um, and really excited when we became part of the IRC as well. So >> yeah. >> Brilliant. Fabulous about me. >> Now you created a CPD course, haven't you? >> I did indeed. Yes. >> What is it? and tell me tell me a little bit about it please. >> So um I put together um a CPD course about sleep. So reflexology for sleep disorders um which is a great mix of theory. It's got practical in there as well. So in terms of theory uh we look at things like the science behind sleep. So circadian rhythms uh sleep stages and the different brain waves role of adenosine and melatonin. Um we look at why we need sleep um sleep hygiene including how we can work with shift workers as well and a little bit into what the research says about reflexology and sleep. Um so we cover that um as well in terms of practical. >> Ah now I was just going to say are there any techniques that people are going to learn that they probably might not have done beforehand? >> Absolutely. Um so we look at treatment planning for specific um sleep disorders. Um there have been over a hundred sleep disorders identified but obviously we do not have time >> 100 sleep disorders. >> Yes. But um in a day's CPD course we don't have time to cover all of those. Um so the main focus so the main focus um is insomnia, sleep apnea, uh restless leg syndrome, brookxism which is uh grinding your teeth um things like that. Um, so we look at how to put together treatment plans that support clients with those uh conditions. >> So, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Back up the bus just a second. I wasn't expecting you to be saying something here because you've just said something really, really interesting. Restless leg syndrome. >> Yeah, >> you've got a treatment plan that will help people with that because that's going to be so useful as well as sleeping, isn't it? >> Definitely. Um the thing with restless leg syndrome is you really need to find out what the cause of it is um so that you can incorporate um the the correct elements the correct reflexes um depending on what is the cause of it. So is it an iron deficiency for example you would need to look at incorporating reflexes for that. Um so we talk about that as part of the treatment planning. Um and we also looked at some specific practical techniques. So um things that people may or may not have seen before like mapping the cranial nerves onto the toes. Um there are certain cranial nerves that are particularly useful for sleep disorders around the eyes um and around swallowing as well. Uh we look at certain parts of the brain uh the visual cortex being one of those which regulates the messages sent from the eyes to the super chaismatic nucleus which is not a madeup word. And that is a word guys that I couldn't say before Charlotte taught me how to say it properly. It was almost the super fragileistic expelidocious reflex. >> No Mary Poppins involved. Um so the supracismatic nucleus or the SCN for short is um a collection of about 20,000 nerve endings in the hypothalamus and that regulates the messages um and kind of controls that circadian rhythm. It's the body's master clock. Um so other parts of the brain that we look at that we've mapped are the Rafe nucleus, the locus cerius, the phalamus, the occipital bone. Um, and we also look at some acupressure points as well on the legs and feet and the arms and the hands. >> Blime me, I tell you what, this sounds so comprehensive. It sounds absolutely brilliant and it sounds like it's going to be super useful, not just for learning how to help people that have got sleep disorders. But there's so much in depth and more um than just that. That's absolutely amazing. Now, am I right in thinking that this is an AOR approved reflexology course as well? >> It is. Yes. Um, so that means it's two CPD points for every hour. So, this course gives you 14 CPD points. >> Amazing. Okay, that's wonderful. Now then, most important question, where are you running these courses so that people know where to go? >> So, there is one um running at the beginning of February and that's in South Oxfordshire. Um so that's Friday the 6th of February. Um it's 9:30 till 5. Um all the information um and how to book is on the Jubilee College website. Um or people can just email me at charlotte.valorjubileecol.com. >> I will I will put the links down in the comments box below. >> Perfect. Um other dates haven't been organized yet. Um it's the first one of the year. Um, so I guess watch this space or the Jubilee College CPD page. Um, and the >> sign up for our newsletter. >> Absolutely. Um, and the AO obviously will will have that information available as well. >> Brilliant. Okay, so Charlotte, this is sounds like there isn't anything else like it out there. I am super excited for you uh about this. It sounds just brilliant. Um guys, for those of you that haven't been taught by Charlotte before, um she did teach with me for a year and she is, in the words of Craig Revel Hallwood, uh amazing. So yeah, there we go. Sorry, I didn't mean to embarrass you quite just quite so much. >> That's fine. I'll take it on the chin. >> So you've heard it here first, guys. Uh reflexology for sleep disorders. It is an AO approved course. Uh currently Oxford Oxford Chet rather is where the first one is and I'm sure we're going to be seeing them cropping up across the UK. Uh so that there will be one near you. And Charlotte, would I be right in saying that if people do contact you that are wanting one near where they are, that wouldn't be a bad starting point, I guess. >> Absolutely. Definitely >> wonderful. Wonderful. So guys, thank you so much for watching this episode of Wednesday's Reflexology Wisdom. I know it is unashamed advertising for Charlotte, but if we didn't do this, you wouldn't get to hear about it. And this is a new development in reflexology. Oh, and by the way, something that Charlotte hasn't told you, she's kept this one rather quiet. Charlotte is also a sleep consultant, so she does know what she is doing. Okay. So, until next time, stay well, stay safe. Thank you very much for watching. Bye-bye. Bye.
