Hello everybody and welcome to a new series uh on Wednesday's reflexology wisdom and we're calling this reflexology works. We're wanting to put a positive message out there on um where reflexology has had success stories and I am absolutely delighted to be joined by uh two of my colleagues uh from the integrated reflexology consortium. To my right we have Karen Smith who teaches um up in Leeds and Newcastle. And we've also even further to my right we have got Allison Walker who teaches in Cheshire and also Birmingham I believe is that that is if I've got it wrong do let me know. Um so without any sort of further ado what we're going to be doing basically is talking about success stories. Karen could I ask you to go first? What did you have in the way of a client and what happened? Okay. So, thank you uh David. Lovely to be here. So, my client was a um lympadema client. So, lympadema in the arm and this was post um breast cancer but actually her second or third episode because it was about post um sort of 10 years that she'd actually had the sort of breast cancer. So she came to me obviously for help with um the lympadema um because basically she just wanted to be able to wear her rings again. Um >> oh on the right on the right hand um so that was her sort of aim and objective of uh of the actual um treatment. >> Wow. So I take it if it's lympadema. Was it perhaps by any chance a little bit of RLD that you were doing? >> Yes. Yes. Uh yes, RLD sort of uh that I did. Um and we did uh three treatments. >> Um >> Whoa. So now then I've got some pictures that you've sent me. They are actually appearing on the screen right now. You can't see them because we're recording this, but they will appear on the screen. I promise you. And we've got some before and afters. And so we can see here at the minute we've got the before which is with her puffy fingers. And now we have got the after and she's got the rings on her finger. And you're saying this was just three sessions. >> Yeah. Three sessions. So uh >> amazing. >> Yeah. Yeah. She was so sort of pleased. And then um she did continue with sort of maintenance treatments um after you know after a while but no that was that was three treatments that we we worked on. So uh yeah >> I bet she thought it was nothing short of a miraculous. >> Yes she was uh she was very very pleased to put it mildly. >> Oh that's just so so good. Um if anybody is in Sally Kay's fabulous RLD course is amazing. Uh, do you know what? I think I'm even going to put a link up um at the bottom. So, if anybody is interested in having fabulous outcomes like that, um, we will do that. Um, Karen, thank you so much for that story. That's just brilliant. Absolutely fabulous. Um, Alli, what what have you because you you've you've I with your experience, I would imagine you have had many many um success stories in your career. >> Yeah. Thank you, David. I think when you actually well we discussed about having um some webinars on reflexology works it was where to start really because in my experience everybody every reflexologist will have had some amazing story. I mean most reflexologists just working on the the sinuses here foot demonstration but just working on the sinuses people's noses run. Um but I I think that the best results in my opinion come from focused treatments >> that is actually um knowing what the client needs, understanding what they they want at the time and creating a very focused treatment. So for example, I had um a gentleman who came to me had a stroke. >> Yeah. >> 18 months prior to coming for his appointment. He had no feeling in his um right foot at all. >> Oh. >> I worked on his big toe and I did very deep treatments, very deep focus treatments all on his toes and he was in tears. It was the first time he'd had any feeling whatsoever in his foot for 18 months. >> Wow. >> Um and he said, "I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it." And he went off to the pub to celebrate after. But anyway, that's that's what he did. Limped off. Anyway, but um but yeah, loads I mean I had a a student in class who had um she had had really bad SPD, symphysis pubis dysfunction when she was pregnant and she'd been training throughout her. She was actually pregnant on the first day she signed off started. So, she was pregnant all the way through the the training and then she had her baby, but she still had this um uh SPD. So, I used um the amazing Lin Boo's vertical reflexology and worked all the way around the pelvic area, found the sore spots, found the um SP um symphysis pubis point and worked around the hip, worked everywhere and it was literally um working for about 30 seconds to a minute and it completely went cuz she hadn't been able to run up the stairs like she normally would. She was hobbling up the stairs and after the treatment she could go up the stairs with no pain and it didn't come back. That's the thing also. Not only does reflexology work uh and you can get instant results, not always but you can do but it can last as well which is amazing. I also had a guy that came um he had um I didn't tell he didn't tell me and I was working on his toe just here and all of a sudden he shot out the chair and I said oh no what's that and he said where's that and I said it's your eye and it he said oh I forgot to tell you he's wearing tinted glasses I didn't see he been to the hospital that morning had all his lower eyelashes removed everything growing and it had shown up immediately on that area It wasn't the week before it wasn't showing up. Even though he'd had that problem, but because he'd had, you know, quite intensive treatment, it was showing up immediately. And by working that, it soothed his eye. And he said, "It doesn't feel gritty. It doesn't feel sore anymore." As he left the treatment room, you know. So, to me, reflexology works. But the the way that you know that reflexology works is um not by reading all the research papers, not by looking at um what everybody else is saying. It's what you experience as a reflexologist. It's what you experience with your clients, which is why we all teach the level five diploma in practitioner reflexology. And I think that training is so important because our focus is all on case studies, case study work. Make sure that you practice, practice, practice. You learn from every client and you never stop learning when you're in training. Um when you've trained >> Oh gosh. Every day school day, isn't it? Yes. Absolutely. >> It is. Absolutely. But I I think and and now you know specializing in uricular for first aid and for um pain relief mobility you know it it is what you learn and what you experience and I'm sorry to walk a lot a bit but I just want to say that oh I just tell you about this lady who had ram she's got she's actually in my class at the moment she's got Ramsey Hunt syndrome which >> I've not heard of that >> it came from a shingles in her ear and it developed like a bow's pausy so it's similar to girls pausy and I was just doing some demonstrating on focused reflexology treatments in class and on the inside of her toe was actually on her foot inside of her toe. She had like two little pin pricks like she'd been almost bitten by a snake or something and then a dry patch. So visually I thought I'm going to try there. So I really went for it and um she started getting tingling in her face and feeling back in her face as we were working and I worked there for about 10 minutes. >> Yeah. So, you know, things like our RLD, Lindoo's um vertical reflexology, Tony Porter's intense treatment, focus treatment, um nerve reflexology, all these that really get you to focus your attention on um the reflexes that need it. And it can be linking techniques, it can be pressure techniques. To me, they're amazing. >> So, you know, I'm just I'll finish in a minute. I just want to say I think it's really important for us reflexologists to be curious to keep an open mind to um do our own research. We are our own researchers. >> Yes. >> You know, and research about the client's condition, be aware of of where it's going to help the most, but visually look at the feet. Let the feet guide you and also use your intuition. >> And then I'll set that's it. >> That was amazing. Now, I'm I'm going to add one of those I'm going to add something to what reflexologists should be as well because >> you've been doing reflexology even longer than me. So, that must be years that you've been in in doing this for >> never lose your passion as a reflexologist. I mean, you can just see the Karen smiling away going, "Yes, yes, yes." Ally telling us these stories about the success that she's got and she's just reeling them off and we're all like that. >> There's loads there's loads these stories to tell. >> I hope that this is going to be the beginning of a fantastic series where we can share these wonderful success stories. Um by the way I suppose I do have to just say on this we are not making any claim to cure um with this but it is just a fabulous therapy. It is something that we need to shout about a bit louder I think and to celebrate the successes that we've had. So guys I hope you've enjoyed this first in what I hope is going to be a fascinating ep series of episodes. Stay well, stay safe, and on behalf of Karen, on behalf of Alli, thank you very much for watching. Bye bye.
