Hi everybody. This is the day after the conference and Sufang has decided that she is going to turn the tables on me. Normally I get to interview people, but she's brought me to a media station. We're at Persona and well, let's go in and there is a studio set up and yeah, I'm going to get the questions asked to me rather than me asking the questions. Let's pop. >> Here we go. [music] [music] Welcome to special Wednesdayology wisdoms. I'm Suongai, director general, department of nursing and healthcare, ministry of health and welfare in Taiwan. Today we have special guest from UK. Can you guess who? Uh David Wait. David Wet is a principal uh jubilee card of the resology also founder of IRC. That's welcome David. Wait. >> Thank you very much. It's great to be here. >> David. >> Yes. >> Can you let me know why you are in Taiwan? How is uh your stay experienced? Okay. >> For a week in Taiwan. >> Okay. So, why am I in Taiwan? >> Yes, >> that's a very easy answer because you invited me. >> Yes. >> But it's because we are creating some really exciting developments with my help and with the Ministry of Health and Welfare with you uh for reflexology in Taiwan. >> Yes. So uh for a week's day uh would you like to uh uh share how experience you in Taiwan especially uh we have a conference >> we did >> about you for holistic healing. >> Yes. >> Uh what kind of specially uh impress you get? Can you share our uh >> So the conference was amazing. Um the first thing that I would think about the conference is it seated 160 people. That was the and >> 200 >> but yes 200 people came. I I saw we had to put chairs down the aisles. There were people standing at the back. It was filled to capacity. there are so many people here who are interested in the development that you are planning for reflexology um in Taiwan which is so exciting. Um so yesterday we had presentations um we had research that is being proven effective for reflexology with dementia. >> Yes. We had uh Snow presenting about the training that she's able to offer at her center uh just outside Tai Chong. We had uh the dean of Tsuchi University uh Professor Pong um talking about the work that she is doing um in Howland County. Um, so the training that is going to be happening and the integration of reflexology into your health care system and the training for nurses um is just fantastic what you presented yesterday at this uh special meeting. Yes, you know uh this is the first time we open our fology for holistic healing uh to invite nurses uh join together and actually there are 200 uh participant come and 80% to 90% are nurses. So, uh, Debbie, uh, would you like to encourage nurses who are interested in revery? >> I'd love to >> based on your, uh, 26 uh, referology uh, field. >> Okay. So if there are nurses listening to this, what I would say is that reflexology can add a wonderful tool to help with healing with your clients. The power of touch is immense. Um it brings a sense of calm. It brings a sense of well-being. There are protocols that you can be taught to help with dementia, to be helped with sleep, that you can help your clients with pain. Um, all of these things aren't just hearsay. These are conditions where there are now research papers that show that reflexology can help with this. Reflexology also has uh proven efficacy with um anxiety with stress and stress of course and anxiety are the root cause of 70% of all conditions. So if you think that you can help people with these conditions, it's wonderful as well for preventative health care. So, better to stop your patients getting ill in the first place and help them with reflexology. It's really, really powerful. And also, reflexology is very pleasant to receive. So, you've got a double benefit. Your clients, your patients will love receiving it, and you are going to be doing so much to help with their health. Thank you. Uh, one more. >> Okay. >> Because >> one more. You I'm not ready for one more question. >> Yes. [laughter] >> Uh, because you're not just uh uh you know as a keynote speaker on our conference, but also you have a trainer trainer workshop with our uh reviser. >> Yes. >> And also you visit uh postpartum nursing home. Yes, >> it's quite different. Uh in Taiwan, we have soal postpartum nursing home >> where is not take care of disabled uh older adults. It take care of a new mama and new baby. >> So would you like to uh share more about uh trainer trainer workshop and uh uh postpartum nursing home? >> Okay. So that's two questions. train the trainer. So we are creating um or have created uh three centers where people can be trained to train reflexologists. And um what I would suggest is that if you are interested in learning to become a trainer is do get in touch with Sufo and she will be able to direct you where you can learn and there are three different places where you can learn in Taiwan to become a reflexology trainer. It's a excellent program. It follows the uh reflexology for holistic healing method and you will be fully equipped to be able to teach reflexology if you follow this program. The postpartum center, we have got nothing like this in the United Kingdom. >> It was so impressive. Um, for those of you who may be watching outside of Taiwan, let me explain. In Taiwan, uh, when a mother has given birth, it is tradition for the mother to be looked after and to rest and to recuperate for a whole month after delivery. And this postpartum center is completely equipped to give the mother and the father guidance um to give them peace to give them the opportunity to rest and recover after having given birth. The mother is able to have the baby with her for as much time as she wants. But if the mother is then becoming tired or uh something needs to be looked after, the baby can be looked after by a team of dedicated nurses, there is all sorts of um opportunities for the mother to be able to receive care um and to receive um uh Chinese traditional medicine, to receive reflexology, uh to receive all sorts of wonderful um aids in her recovery and the the facility was just so impressive. It really really was. Um the amount of attention to detail even to the point that u the air is purified so that the baby doesn't breathe any impurities in. The water that they bathed the babies in is specially treated just in case the the baby may um swallow some of the water. it's absolutely guaranteed that the baby will not become ill um due to any kind of mishap at all. So, a fantastic fantastic um set of procedures and and a wonderful place for new mothers to be. >> Okay. Thanks uh for your sharing. And just one more again, [laughter] this is your second time visit Taiwan. >> It is. Yes. >> Yeah. Uh would you like to share uh friends uh about Taiwan's people, Taiwan's food, Taiwan's um uh housing? Yeah, that's up to your experience. >> Wow. My impression of Taiwan. Okay, let's we'll do it in the order that you just said. Taiwan's people beautiful. >> Thank you. >> You have such fantastic hearts. you are, everybody that I have met is so friendly, so welcoming. Um, something that I love about Taiwan, in fact, is that when I am walking down the street, when I'm on your metro system, your subway, when I'm on the trains, I'm the only Western person. I love that. I absolutely love that. when when if I were to go on holiday somewhere >> and um you go to visit a country and there are so many English people there and it's no no no no I don't want to be with the English people I want to I want to absorb the country where I am and I want to enjoy uh the difference and Taiwan is beautifully different >> so the country. It is fertile. It is warm. It is lush. It's a very very beautiful island. Um the the housing you said >> housing and food. >> The Oh, the food. Let's do the food. >> Yes, food. [laughter] >> Guys, um if you want to lose weight, don't come to Taiwan. >> [laughter] >> The food is amazing. They have the this everywhere I've been they are circular tables. Everybody sits around the table. So the good thing is you can talk to everybody. >> Yes. >> And then in the middle of the table there is a wheel. Uh it's like another table and the food just gets put on this wheel and so you just spin the wheel and you pass the food to each other. And then the food just keeps coming and coming and there's more and there's more and there's more and the guys that are filming this are laughing here cuz they know what I'm saying. Um it's and the tastes, the variety, the freshness of the food. It's amazing. It really really is. Um so yeah, I would thoroughly enjoy it. Thoroughly enjoy it. Yeah. >> Okay. Um friends, you know, now David can speak not only Chinese but also Taiwanese. >> So yeah. [laughter] >> Yeah, he can speak Chinese and Taiwanese. And he can uh you know take uh chastic very well better than Taiwanese people. >> No, I don't think so. [laughter] >> Okay. Uh do you want more sharing? >> I think what I would like to actually share is thank you so much for inviting me. It has been a privilege and an honor to be able to be part of um your plan for the development of reflexology in Taiwan. Um I am playing just a small part in this. Um the real big mover in Taiwan is this lady here is Shuong. It's your vision. It's your passion and I have just been so grateful that you decided that you wanted to work with me and the the techniques that we do at Jubilee College and for us to then be able to create this new method of reflexology, reflexology for holistic healing. So thank you Shashier. >> Thank you David for your visiting for your help. Uh thank you very much. Now uh time for crossing the interview and now we will say goodbye and stay well, stay safe. Being as we're approaching the Luna New Year in China and Taiwan and the rest of the Far East, it wouldn't be right to not finish Wednesday's reflexology wisdom with wishing you a happy new year in Chinese. So, mata changed um being as the year of the horse. If somebody arrives on a horse, they will have good fortune and success. So, may success follow all of you all of your days. >> Bye-bye. >> Bye.
